What:
Traffic Check Point for Impaired and/or Unlicensed Drivers

When:
Monday, December 31, 2001
From 8:00 p.m.

Where:
Cesar E. Chavez Avenue
between Evergreen Avenue and Sloat Street

Los Angeles: On Monday, December 31, 2001, at 8:00 p.m. The Los Angeles Police Department, Central Traffic Division will be conducting a license/sobriety check point on Cesar E. Chavez Avenue, between Evergreen Avenue and Sloat Street.

Every year the Los Angeles Police Department gathers statistical information on traffic related issues, including arrests for Driving Under the Influence (DUI), and Hit and Run traffic Collisions. It is believed that a large number of Hit and Run collisions involve unlicensed drivers and/or DUI drivers. By combining a driver license/sobriety checkpoint Central Traffic Division officers will be focusing their efforts on enforcement as well as educating the public on the dangers of driving impaired.

This information was provided by Sergeant Tom Tavares, Central Traffic Division, Community Safety Unit, 213-485-2799.

This press release was prepared by Public Information Officer Eduardo Funes, Media Relations Section, 213-485-3586.
