Update to the Murder of Clyve Jackson

Los Angeles: On November 21, 2002, at approximately 4:00 p.m., the victim, 14 year-old Clyve Jackson, was in front of the McGee’s Donut Shop located in the 4400 block of South Western Avenue. The victim was approached by a suspect and after an exchange of words and a fistfight, the suspect shot the victim. The victim is not known to have gang affiliations. However, the suspect is known as a member of a street gang. The suspect has been identified as 17 year-old Antwain Butler of Los Angeles. He was described having a light mustache and goatee. Los Angeles Fire Department Paramedics responded and pronounced the victim dead at the scene.

Over the past several days, the Department has repeatedly expressed concern over the rise in violent crimes in the City; particularly in the South Central Los Angeles Area. Los Angeles Police Department Chief of Police Bill Bratton has pledged to combine forces with the community in an effort to address this growing concern. True to form, the community has responded and, as a result of their commitment to putting an end to the senseless violence that pervades our neighborhoods, the Department has identified the suspect responsible for the tragic murder of 14 year-old Clyve Jackson.
