30 Year-Old Man Shot And Killed In Hollywood

Los Angeles: On Wednesday, December 31, 2003, at about 3:45 p.m., Hollywood Area patrol officers responded to a radio call of a shooting in the area of 6101 Romaine Street.

Upon the officers’ arrival, they observed a male victim down on the sidewalk, suffering from multiple gunshot wounds. Los Angeles Fire Department Paramedics responded and transported the victim to a local hospital where he was subsequently pronounced dead at 4:23 p.m.

The investigation has disclosed that the victim was standing on the sidewalk when a vehicle drove up and stopped. A male Hispanic exited the passenger side of the car, walked up to the victim and shot him numerous times. The suspect then got back into the vehicle and fled the location.

The suspect is described as a male Hispanic, 5’-5" to 5’-7", 150 pounds, about 25 years of age. The driver of the car is described only as a male Hispanic. The vehicle was described as a blue 1998 to 2002 Ford Expedition.

The victim has been identified as 30 year-old Eric Ruiz, a resident of Glendale. The motive appears to be gang-related.

Anyone with information regarding this crime is requested to call Hollywood Area Detectives, at 213-485-6410. On weekends and during off-hours, call the 24-hour toll free number at the Detective Information Desk, at 1-877-LAWFULL (1-877-529-3855).
