Gas Station Attendant Dies After Physical Altercation

Los Angeles: Homicide detectives are investigating the death of a 49-year-old gas station attendant who was involved in a fight with a customer in Van Nuys on Wednesday.

On December 7, 2005, at about 6:45 p.m., Mohammed Delwar Chowhury, an attendant working at a gas station in the 14800 block of Burbank Boulevard, became involved in an argument with a customer. During the argument the customer pushed Chowhury several times. When Chowhury tried to write down the suspect's license plate, the suspect pushed him again and left the gas station. Chowhury later collapsed while telling police what happened. He subsequently died at a local hospital.

Video cameras inside the store captured part of the incident. Detectives were able to identify the suspect from the information provided by the victim. Charles Jenkins, 33 years, was arrested at his Van Nuys residence without incident.

Anyone with information is asked to call Van Nuys Homicide Detectives at 818-756-8370. On weekends and during off-hours, contact the toll free 24-hour number at 1-877-LAWFULL (1-877-529-3855).
