Councilmember Ed Reyes introduced a motion for rewards for two unsolved murder cases, which was approved by the City Council.

On October 14, 2006, Christopher Fragoso and Jese Velez were sitting outside of Velez' home in the 2800 block of Macon Street. Two gunmen approached them and asked for their gang affiliation. When the victims replied that they were not gang members, the suspects fired several rounds with a high powered rifle, killing Fragoso and wounding Velez. A reward of $75,000 is being offered.

On the evening of July 21, 2006, a graduation party was held at a residence in the 100 block of East Avenue 40. A fight broke out between two partygoers. The involved persons were escorted out of the party. As they were walking to their cars, the fight resumed. Zelvin Reyes, 17, intervened to prevent his friend from getting beaten, when an unknown suspect shot him in the back. A reward of $50,000 is being offered.

Anyone with information regarding these incidents is asked to contact Northeast Homicide Detectives at 213-847-4261. On weekends and during off-hours, call the 24-hour toll free number at 1-877-LAWFULL (1-877-529-3855).
