Why:
The purpose of the sobriety checkpoint is to reduce the number of traffic collisions involving intoxicated drivers through enforcement and public awareness. Motorists approaching a checkpoint will see information advising them that a sobriety checkpoint is ahead. Once diverted into a lane, all motorist will be detained a few moments while an officer explains the purpose of the checkpoint. The checkpoints will operate in accordance with guidelines mandated by Supreme Court decision in "Ingersol vs. Palmer".
