Murder Suspect Arrested for the Stabbing Death of a 67-Year-Old Man

Los Angeles: LAPD Homicide Detectives arrested a suspect for the murder of a 67-year-old man, who was stabbed to death earlier this week.

On December 13, 2008, Wilshire area officers went to the 800 block of South Serrano Avenue to check on the welfare of a 67-year-old man who resided there.  The officers found the man stabbed to death in his apartment.

Homicide investigators were notified and went to the scene.  During their investigation, detectives conducted a detailed interview with a man, who was then arrested for murder.  The suspect, 34-year-old Shawn Towne, a resident of Los Angeles, was arrested and booked for murder.

The motive of the murder is still being investigated.

The name of the victim will not be released until his family has been notified.

Anyone with information is asked to contact Wilshire Homicide Detectives John Shafia at 213-473-0446. After-hours and on weekends calls may be directed to the 24-hour, toll-free number, 1-877-LAPD24-7 (527-3247) or texting CRIMES (274637) and beginning the message with LAPD.  Tipsters may also submit information on the LAPD website www.lapdonline.org., and can remain anonymous.
