Fugitive Wanted for Battery on a Los Angeles Police Officer Caught After Two Months on the Run NR10571SF

Los Angeles:  Dangerous parolee at large is caught and arrested by a multi-agency task force.  The suspect was not only wanted for battery on a police officer, but for several summertime robberies.

On October 25, 2010, Mission Area patrol officers pulled over a man who was driving a car with suspended registration.  The driver, identified as 24-year-old Juan Miguel Diaz, a known gang member who lived in Sun Valley, got out of his car and initially complied with the officers.  During the conversation with the officers, Diaz shoved one of the officers in attempt to run away.  The suspect tripped and fell to the ground and the officer immediately grabbed him. The suspect was able to stand upright and dragged the officer several feet causing injury to the officer's forearm. The suspect broke free from the officer’s grip and ran away.

During the investigation, detectives learned that in addition to being wanted for battery on a police officer he was a parolee at large and wanted for three separate robberies that took place during the summer months in Pacoima, an area patrolled by LAPD’s Foothill Division.

For several months LAPD’s Mission Area, Foothill Division and the United States Marshals Service’s Los Angeles Regional Fugitive Task Force have worked tirelessly to locate Juan Miguel Diaz.  Earlier today at 3:00 p.m., Diaz was taken into custody in Sylmar.

For additional information regarding the capture of this dangerous fugitive, please call  Detective Gilbert, Mission Division at 818-838-9883.
