Mother without Custody Rights Disappears with Son NR11574rf

Los Angeles:  LAPD detectives working on a joint taskforce with the Federal Bureau of Investigation are asking for the public’s help in locating a woman who has apparently taken her young 3-year-old son.

On Nov. 5, 2011, at about 5:30 p.m., 48-year-old suspect Iman Maryam Sufi was having a monitored visitation with her son in the 6300 block of Van Nuys Boulevard. Legally, the child’s father has sole custody rights of the boy.  However, Sufi is allowed weekly visitations providing they are supervised by someone acting as a monitor.  During the Nov. 5 visitation, Sufi tricked the supervising monitor by locking her in a parking structure and then left the location with her son.

The suspect is described as a female Iranian with brown hair and eyes.  She stands about 5 feet 7 inches tall and weighs about 128 pounds.  She drives a 2002 black, four-door Honda Accord with a California license plate number of 6KMS717.

The 3-year-old missing boy is described as Armenian Iranian with black hair and brown eyes. He stands 3 feet tall and weighs about 35 pounds.

Anyone with information about this crime, especially the suspect’s location, is urged to call LAPD Van Nuys Major Assault Crime detectives at 818-304-8816. During non-business hours or on weekends, calls should be directed to 1-877-LAPD-24-7.  Anyone wishing to remain anonymous should call Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-TIPS (800-222-8477).  Tipsters may also contact Crime Stoppers by texting to phone number 274637 (C-R-I-M-E-S on most keypads) with a cell phone.  All text messages should begin with the letters “LAPD.” Tipsters may also go to LAPDOnline.org, click on "webtips" and follow the prompts.
