Vi CAP Section

The Vi CAP Section provides high-tech support to the LAPD’s Robbery-Homicide Division (RHD). RHD is a citywide LAPD detective division that investigates major crimes requiring extensive expertise, such as officer involved shootings, serial rapists, bank robbers, and high-profile murders.

Among the more famous cases that RHD has investigated are:

▪ North Hollywood bank shootout
▪ O.J. Simpson
▪ Symbionese Liberation Army shootout
▪ Robert Kennedy
▪ Charles Manson
▪ Night Stalker (for crimes committed in the city)
▪ Ennis Cosby
▪ Notorious B.I.G.

The Vi CAP Section maintains a database of all murders occurring in the city of Los Angeles (the Sheriff is responsible for the county), dating back to 1985. (This data is offline at a different site on a computer with no physical connection to modems or the Internet.)

This information can help agencies:

▪ Find cases with similar M.O.’s
▪ Develop additional leads in difficult-to-solve cases
▪ Find and clear additional murders committed by the same suspect(s)
▪ Detect serial killers moving across state lines
