Three Men Arrested for Kidnapping in an Apparent Drug Deal Gone Bad

"Three Men Arrested for Kidnapping in an Apparent Drug Deal Gone Bad"

Canoga Park: On October 8, 2001 sometime between the hours of 7:00 p.m. and 8:00 p.m., two male Hispanic victims, ages 17 and 21, were kidnapped from the Red Lion Hotel located at 20200 Sherman Way. Three male Hispanics, in an apparent drug deal gone bad, kidnapped the victims at gunpoint. The suspects then made ransom demands to the victims' family and friends, threatening to kill the victims if the ransom demands were not met.

Robbery-Homicide Division Detectives and Detective Services Division, Special Investigation Section, with the assistance of Devonshire Juvenile and Vice Sections, conducted an extensive investigation that resulted in the safe recovery of both victims and the arrest of the three armed suspects. One of the victims received medical treatment for a contusion and abrasions to the head.

The suspects were booked at Devonshire Community Police Station for 209 (A) PC (Kidnap for Ransom) with a bail amount set at $1,010,000.00.

The suspects have been identified as:

  • Benjamin Paul Huette, 22 years of age and a resident of Hacienda Heights.
  • Alfredo Gonzalez, 20 years of age and a resident of Pacoima.
  • Fredrico Herrera, 29 years of age and a resident of Los Angeles.

The investigation is being handled by Robbery-Homicide Division, Robbery Special Section, Detective's J. Giroud and B. Richards, 213-485-2511.

This press release was prepared by Police Officer Victoria Diaz, Media Relations Section 213-485-3586
