Pedestrian Crosswalk Safety Enforcement Operation NA10227rh

WHAT:   
Los Angeles Police Department (LAPD) and California State University Northridge Police Department (CSUN PD) will be conducting a Pedestrian Sting Operation

WHEN:   
Thursday, September 2, 2010 7:30 a.m.
        
WHERE:       
Reseda Boulevard and Dearborn Street

WHO:         
Representative from Councilmember 12th District Greig Smith’s office  
Captain Bill Sutton, Commanding Officer, Valley Traffic Division
Sergeant Art Gomez, Valley Traffic Division
Valley Traffic Motorcycle Police Officers
Devonshire Police Officers and Plain Clothes Officers
Captain Alfredo Fernandez, Commanding Officer, California State University, Northridge Traffic Safety Unit, California State University, Northridge
Northridge Motorcycle Police Officers.

WHY:    
In the United States, a pedestrian is killed in a traffic collision every 120 minutes and injured in a traffic crash every 8 minutes. This operation will be conducted to improve pedestrian safety awareness, to change dangerous driver behavior and improve traffic safety in our communities.       

Plain clothes police officers will be crossing at the intersection to identify motorists who fail to yield to the right of way of pedestrians within the crosswalk.  Those drivers who fail to do so will be cited.
