Pedestrian Crosswalk Safety and Enforcement Operation

What:   
A Pedestrian Crosswalk Safety and Enforcement Operation conducted by the LAPD’s Valley Traffic Division as part of the San Fernando Valley’s 2011 “Pedestrian and Child Safety Campaign.”   

When:
Tuesday, February 15, 2011                

Where:
The enforcement operation(s) will be conducted at two locations within the LAPD’s Devonshire Division as follows:  
7 a.m. to 9 a.m.- Zelzah Avenue and Hiawatha Street
1:30 p.m. to 3:30 p.m.- Reseda Boulevard and Dearborn Street

Who:
LAPD VTD Officers
LAPD Devonshire Division Officers   
California State University Northridge – Department of Police Services Officers
Los Angeles School Police Department Officers

Why:
To promote pedestrian safety through education and enforcement of the rules of the road as it pertains to vehicle and pedestrian violations.  The goals of this operation will be to improve pedestrian safety, to change dangerous pedestrian behaviors, to change dangerous driver behavior, to change dangerous behaviors near schools and to reduce injury, death, and property damage associated with vehicle verses pedestrian traffic collisions.

The Zelzah Avenue and Hiawatha Street location is in close proximity to Granada Hills High School and the Reseda Boulevard and Dearborn Street location is near California State University Northridge.
