Sobriety and Driver's License Checkpoint Scheduled

Los Angeles - Every year, Central Traffic Division, gathers statistical information on traffic collisions, arrests for driving under the influence (D.U.I.), and hit-and-run traffic violations. This year, CTD is utilizing a problem solving technique directed at the reduction in these categories of traffic collisions. After receiving requests from community members and patrol officers for enforcement in these areas, officers conducted a computer check which revealed a high number of D.U.I. and hit-and-run traffic collisions on Vermont Avenue. Therefore, beginning at 8:00 p.m. tonight, a combined sobriety and driver's license checkpoint will focus attention on education and enforcement of impaired and unlicensed drivers on Vermont Avenue between Wilshire Boulevard and 6th Street.
A majority of the hit-and-run traffic collisions involve either D.U.I. and/or unlicensed drivers. Drinking and driving is unacceptable behavior causing impairment which may lead to property damage, injury and/or death. We strongly advise a designated sober driver for those choosing to go out and drink. Additionally, we ask that if you do not have a driver's license, please do not drive. It is against the law and your vehicle may be impounded.
