On Tuesday, February 1, 2000, at 9:20 a.m., Foothill Area Patrol Officers responded to a radio call of an "Ambulance Death investigation", in the 10600 block of Tamarack Avenue in Pacoima, California. Upon arrival, the officers were met by a friend of the victim who stated that he was conducting a welfare check on the victim because he had not been heard from in two days. The friend entered the residence and discovered the victim, Jose Salazar, 40 years old of Pacoima, strangled to death.

The motive for the murder is unknown at this time. No suspects are in custody.

The Los Angeles Police Department is seeking the assistance of the community by asking that any witness contact The Foothill Homicide Detectives at 818-834-3115 or 818-834-3103 and during the evening at 818-756-8861.
