Attempt Murder and Suicide

Koreatown - The Los Angeles Police Department's Wilshire Homicide Detectives are investigating a shooting that occurred on Thursday, February 18, 2001, at approximately 9:20 a.m. at 1010 South Westmoreland Avenue. The victim was a 14-year-old female Hispanic and her name was not released due to her age.

The victim was at a family friend's residence when her 17-year old boy friend shot her in the head area with a handgun. The boy friend then shot himself in the head with the same weapon. Los Angeles Fire Department Paramedics responded to the scene and pronounced the boy friend dead as a result of a self inflicted gunshot wound.

The victim was transported to a local hospital where she was placed on life support system. The motive for the shooting appears to be domestic dispute.

Wilshire Operations Support Division Homicide detectives are investigating this incident. For further information, contact Detectives Frank Bolan or Gregory Kading at 213-473-0444.

This press release was prepared by Public Information Officer Jason Lee, Media Relations Section 213-485-3586.
