"Hit and Run Driver Strikes Bicyclist and Causes His Death"

Los Angeles: On Sunday, February 10, 2002, at approximately 12:40 a.m., a fatal hit and run collision occurred in the 5000 block of south Normandie Avenue. Herbert Gasper, 42 year-old male was riding his bicycle in the southbound number one lane of Normandie Avenue. He was struck from behind by a vehicle also traveling in a southbound direction. Mr. Gasper was dragged underneath the hit and run vehicle over 100 feet before coming to rest in the roadway. Los Angeles Fire Department paramedics responded to the scene and pronounced the victim dead at the scene.

The driver and the vehicle failed to remain at the scene. There were no witnesses to the collision that could provide investigators with a vehicle or driver description.
