Traffic Collision Kills One and Injures Ten

 

Los Angeles: On Monday, February 3, 2003 at approximately 11:30 a.m., a vehicle vs. pedestrian traffic collision occurred in the 3700 block of South La Brea Avenue in the Southwest Area. The collision occurred when a 67 year-old male, Black, was parking his 1992 Buick Roadmaster in the front parking lot of a building. At the time of the collision, the building was fully occupied with patients undergoing dialysis treatments as well as medical staff.

A total of 10 patients, 6 male Blacks, 1 female Black, 2 male Hispanics, and 1 female Hispanic, were injured and transported by Los Angeles City paramedics to various hospitals in the City. One medical staff member, a male Black was also injured. The injured were residents of the City of Los Angeles, Bellflower, Culver City, Long Beach, and Hawthorne. Their ages are ranging from 34 to 81 years old. One of the more severely injured patients, a 74-year-old male Los Angeles resident, was transported to Kaiser Hospital in West Los Angeles where he died as a result of his injuries. The name of the deceased is being withheld pending notification of next of kin.

The driver was released after questioning and the cause of the collision is still under investigation by South Traffic Detectives. The driver was with his wife during the collision but neither of them received any injuries. The driver is a Los Angeles resident.
