Los Angeles:
On Tuesday, February 11, 2003 at approximately 10:00 A.M., members of
the Los Angeles Board of Police Commissioners and Los Angeles Chief of
Police William J. Bratton will announce a new community-focused partnership
between KMEX-TV/Univision 34 and the Department. The KMEX-TV/Univision 34
team will be honored during the regularly scheduled Police Commission
Meeting.
The Los Angeles Police Department and management of KMEX-TV/Univision 34
will announce the specifics of this new partnership, which involves a
yearlong informational campaign titled Su Seguro Servidor (Your
Trusted Servant). This partnership, which has been in the planning for well
over a year, is designed to provide vital public safety information to the
vast, and increasingly growing, Hispanic community in Los Angeles and
enhance the community’s perception of the Department. With the assistance of
LAPD personnel, KMEX and TeleFutura 46 will broadcast Public Service
Announcements (PSAs), for one year, with each month carrying a different
topic. Topics will include graffiti prevention, transit safety, pedestrian
safety, crime prevention tips, etc. A support function for the campaign will
be weekly guest appearances on KMEX newscasts by Department personnel.
LAPD Chief of Police William J. Bratton hails this partnership as a
"First ever between the LAPD and a major news organization, focused on
providing an important and necessary service to the Hispanic community."
