"Hikers Discover Human Skeletal Remains in Griffith Park Canyon"

 

Los Angeles: On Saturday, February 8, 2003 at 3:00 p.m., two hikers discovered human skeletal remains in a remote canyon in Griffith Park. Due to nightfall fast approaching, the recovery effort was put off until Sunday morning.

On Sunday, February 9, 2003 at 7:00 a.m., the Los Angeles Police Department’s Northeast Division, in conjunction with the Los Angeles City Park Rangers and the Los Angeles County Coroner Office, conducted an investigation and recovered the skeletal remains below the Dante’s View picnic area within Griffith Park.

The identity of the person and cause of death is unknown at this time, pending further examination and investigation by the Coroner’s Office.
