Homicide Detectives Investigate Fatal Stabbing

Los Angeles: Rampart Homicide Detectives are investigating the death of a male Hispanic, approximately 25/30 years of age.

On Saturday, February 22, 2003, at approximately 12:15 a.m., Rampart Area officers responded to a radio call of an "Assault with a Deadly Weapon" in the 1800 block of West Beverly Boulevard. Upon arrival, the officers observed a male Hispanic, suffering from stab wounds. The officers were advised that the person responsible for the stabbing was in front of a location on the 100 block of South Burlington Avenue.

Officers responded to the 100 block of South Burlington Avenue and observed a second male Hispanic suffering from stab wounds. The Los Angeles Fire Department Paramedics responded and transported this victim to LAUSC Medical Center. He failed to respond to treatment and was pronounced dead upon arrival. This victim’s identity is being withheld pending notification of next of kin.

The initial victim who called the police was transported to a local hospital where he was treated and released.

Preliminary indications are that the two males were involved in a fight. The investigation, to date, has not determined which of the two was the aggressor. Officers recovered a knife in the 100 block of South Burlington Avenue.

Anyone with information regarding this incident is asked to call Rampart Homicide Detectives C. Silva or L. Velasco at 213-207-2051. During weekends and off-hours, contact the 24-hour toll free number at the Detective Information Desk 1-877-LAWFULL (1-877-529-3855).
