Senseless Gang Shooting Results In Fatality

Los Angeles: On February 7, 2003, at about 2:30 a.m., Newton Area Patrol officers responded to a radio call of an "Ambulance Shooting" at California Hospital. They were told that Lucio Nazerio, a 21 year-old male Hispanic had been transported by his friends and died at the hospital. A second victim, whose name will not be released, was also shot several times and is listed in critical condition.

Witnesses state the victim's were driving in the area of Gage Avenue and Main Street when the shooting occurred. It is unclear who did the shooting or how it happened. However, it is known that several male Hispanics, who were standing on the sidewalk in the area of 6200 South Main Street, shot Nazerio and His friend.

Unfortunately, there are no good descriptions of the suspects and this incident appears to be gang related.

Anyone with information regarding this incident is asked to contact Newton Area Homicide Detectives, at 323-846-6556. On weekends and during off-hours, please contact the 24-hour toll free number at the Detective Information Desk, at 1-877-LAWFULL (1-877-529-3855).

This news release was prepared by Public Information Officer Adriana N. Sanchez, Media Relations Section, at 213-485-3586.
