Seven Party-Goers Shot, One Dead

Los Angeles: The Los Angeles Police Department’s 77th Street Area Homicide Detectives are investigating a shooting incident that led to the death of Jorge Luva, 24 years of age, and the wounding of six other persons.

On Saturday morning, February 14, 2004, at about 1:15 a.m., 77th Street Area patrol officers responded to a shooting call at an apparent underground Valentine’s Day Party at 1301 West Manchester Avenue. The officers located five Hispanic men and two women who had been shot. All shooting victims were taken to local hospitals, but Luva died at Martin Luther King Jr. Hospital. The other six victims are in stable condition.

The preliminary investigation revealed that a group of Hispanic men drove by the party location and fired multiple rounds into the crowd of patrons.

The motive is unknown. The suspects and weapon remain outstanding.
