Valley Sobriety Checkpoint

What:
LAPD conducts Sobriety Checkpoint

When:
Sunday, February 17, 2008
1:00 PM – 11:00 PM

Where:
On Pierce Street west of Glenoaks Boulevard

Who:
Valley Traffic Officers

Why:
The purpose of the sobriety checkpoint is to educate the public on the risks associated with driving a motor vehicle while under the influence. It is also used as a deterrent to reduce the incidents of traffic collisions involving intoxicated drivers. The alcohol and drug impaired driver poses s a danger to everyone.

This advisory is to initiate media attention and enhance public awareness on the dangers of impaired driving.

Motorists approaching a checkpoint will see posted information advising them of a checkpoint ahead. Once diverted into a lane, each motorist will be detained a few moments while an officer explains the purpose of the checkpoint.

Funding for checkpoints was provided by traffic safety grants.

For further information, contact Sergeant Frank Orlando, Valley Traffic Division, at 818-756-8381.
