Jewish Center Target of Hate Crime

Los Angeles: Two incendiary devices were lobbed at a local Jewish Center early Monday morning and the incident is being investigated as a hate crime.

The incident occurred on February 18, 2008, at around 2:00 a.m. Investigators from the House of Worship Task Force are investigating the incident that took place at the Jewish Federation Valley Alliance in the 22600 block of Vanowen Street, West Hills. The Task Force is comprised of investigators from the LAFD Arson Section, LAPD Major Crimes Division-Criminal Conspiracy Section, and Special Agents from the FBI and ATF.

The LAFD Arson Section has the primary investigative responsibility for this incident, with the other agencies taking a supportive role.

The devices caused only minor damage to a brick wall and there were no injuries reported.

The Task Force is working to identify the person or persons responsible for this crime. All crimes and acts of vandalism against any religious group or house of worship are taken very seriously and are given the highest priority.
