$50,000 Reward Being Offered in Murder of 14-Year-Old Emmery Munoz NR11050cj

Los Angeles:  Councilmember José Huizar and LAPD's Hollenbeck Homicide detectives asked for the public's help with providing any information that will lead to the arrest of the person(s) responsible for the 2006 murder of Boyle Heights resident Emmery Munoz.

Munoz was last seen at home by her mother, Maria Mejia, on Friday, January 20, 2006.  Two days later, Mejia reported Munoz missing to the Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department, East L.A. Station.

On January 25, 2006 LAPD Hollenbeck detectives were assigned to handle the case.  The investigation led them to a body that was found at a loading dock of an abandoned business located at 1513 Marisol Street.  The body was identified as 14-year-old Emmery Munoz.  On May 11, 2006 it was determined that the cause of death was due to asphyxiation.  The detectives also discovered that Munoz was involved in the RAVE party scene and made connections through the popular website, MySpace.

The Los Angeles City Councilman José Huizar re-approved the $50,000 reward from 2006 and LAPD Hollenbeck detectives have continued to work tirelessly to bring justice to the family of Emmery Munoz.

Anyone with information about this crime is urged to call Hollenbeck Homicide Detective Douglass Kirkland at 323-342-8984.  During non-business hours or on weekends, calls should be directed to 1-877-LAPD-24-7.   Anyone wishing to remain anonymous should call Crimestoppers at 1-800-222-TIPS (800-222-8477).  Tipsters may also contact Crimestoppers by texting to phone number 274637 (C-R-I-M-E-S on most keypads) with a cell phone.  All text messages should begin with the letters "LAPD." Tipsters may also go to LAPDOnline.org, click on "webtips" and follow the prompts.
