The officers involved in the officer-involved shooting have been identified as:  Police Officer III Gary Pugliese, 16 years and 7 months with the Department, Police Officer II Jacob Palacios, 4 years and 9 months with the Department, and Police Officer II Elder Chinchilla, 4 years and 7 months with the Department.

Los Angeles: Los Angeles Police Department Criminal Gang Homicide Division Detectives are asking for the public’s help in providing any information that may lead to the arrest of the suspect(s) responsible for the shooting of 37-year-old Sigmund Thomas Chornes.

On Sunday, February 2, 2014, around 9:40 p.m., Mr. Chornes was shot while standing near the sidewalk in the 4000 block of Abourne Road.  

Los Angeles Fire Department personnel responded and pronounced the victim dead at the scene.  

The investigation revealed that Mr. Chornes was visiting friends and had just left a nearby location.  A light colored SUV stopped nearby, the suspect stepped out of the passenger side of the SUV and began shooting. The suspect’s vehicle was last seen westbound on Santo Tomas Drive.

The suspect is described as a male Black, in his twenties. Two additional male Blacks were also seen inside the vehicle.
