Los Angeles: On July 15, 2017, Foothill Area officers responded to a domestic disturbance radio call in the 10000 block of Omelveny Street. The officers met with the victim who informed them the suspect, later identified as Gerber Diguez, had left the location. After completing their investigation at the location, but prior to leaving the area, Diguez returned. There was a brief vehicle pursuit of Diguez, who fled on foot when he stopped the vehicle. Diguez ran eastbound to Haddon Street, north of Carl Street and shot at officers who had been pursuing him. The officers fired at and struck Diguez.

Los Angeles Fire Department personnel responded and determined Diguez was deceased. No officers were injured.

A firearm was found at the officer involved shooting scene and recovered by investigators.

LAPD's specialized Force Investigation Division (FID) responded to the scene and began interviewing witnesses and collecting forensic evidence. A representative from the Los Angeles County District Attorney's Office and Office of the Inspector General were at scene. The complete investigation will be reviewed by the Chief of Police and the Board of Police Commissioners to determine whether the use of deadly force complied with LAPD's policies and procedures. The Los Angeles District Attorney's Office will also review the evidence collected during the investigation to determine whether any criminal laws were violated.
