Los Angeles: On Wednesday, March 5, 2003, dozens of Los Angeles Police Department officers from Foothill Area, Valley Traffic Division, and Valley Headquarters Bureau will focus on violent crime in the Foothill Area of the San Fernando Valley.
Operations will commence at approximately 7:00 a.m., and will continue past midnight. There are two targeted areas. The first area is considered the, "Van Nuys Corridor", which encompasses three blocks on either side of Van Nuys Boulevard from Foothill Boulevard on the east. This area includes the San Fernando Gardens Housing development and the Pierce Apartments. The second target area borders Polk Street to the north, Maclay Street to the south, Simshaw Avenue to the east and Glenoaks Boulevard to the west. There will be zero-tolerance for traffic violations and criminal acts in the affected area.
Recent task forces in other parts of the Valley have resulted in hundreds of traffic citations, vehicle impounds, and dozens of arrests. Other similar task forces to combat violent crime are scheduled to be conducted in other parts of the San Fernando Valley.
