"Truant Students Hospitalized due to Alcohol Intoxication"

Los Angeles – On Friday, April 6, 2001, at approximately 3:00 P.M., Foothill area patrol officers responded to two related radio calls in the Tujunga area. Both calls were in the vicinity of the 10700 block of Mount Gleason Ave. and dealt with two females in possible distress and in the company of a large group of males. Upon arrival at the scene, Officers determined the group were juvenile students who had been "Ditching" school during the day. Several members of the group, including the two females, had been consuming alcoholic beverages in a nearby park. Several members of the group became concerned due to the degree of intoxication exhibited by the two juvenile females and they were attempting to assist them.
Officers noted the female juveniles to be semi-conscious and immediately called LAFD Paramedics. The two females were transported to Pacifica Hospital for emergency medical treatment due to alcohol ingestion.
One of the juveniles was described as a 14-year-old resident of Sun Valley. She is listed in critical condition, and remains on a life support system. The other juvenile was described as a 15-year-old resident of Lake View Terrace. She was treated and released several hours later.
Foothill Area Detectives are currently investigating the circumstances regarding the ingestion of the alcohol by the minors.
The investigation is being conducted under the direction of Captain K. Pitcher, Commanding Officer, Foothill Operations Support Division.
