Hate Related Crime Occurred in the Shadow Hills Area of Foothill Division

On Thursday, November 18, 1999 at approximately 10:15 P.M., a hate related crime occurred in the Shadow Hills area of Foothill Division.

An interracial couple living in the area were in their residence when they heard what sounded like a vehicle leaving the area at a high rate of speed. A neighbor of the victims observed a group of possible males in a vehicle, toss a burning wooden cross onto the couple’s driveway.

As the suspect vehicle fled, one of the suspects yelled racial slurs in the direction of the couple’s residence.

No damage occurred to the victim’s property. The family has lived in the area for over ten years.

The suspects fled the area in a 1960 to 1970 American made vehicle. The suspects and vehicle are not in custody.

Foothill Area Detectives, under the direction of Captain Diljeet Singh, Commanding Officer, Foothill Operation Support Division, are handling the investigation.

The Los Angeles Police Department is seeking the assistance of the community, asking any witnesses or anyone with information regarding this incident to contact Foothill Detectives Jose Martinez and Miles Taylor at 818-834-3115 during the weekdays or 818-756-8861 during evening and weekend hours.
