Machete-Wielding Suspect is Shot and Killed

Los Angeles: A man swinging a machete at police was shot in the San Fernando Valley Wednesday evening.

On May 16, 2007, at about 6:30 PM, police were conducting a follow-up investigation near the
All Nations Church, in the 10000 block of Foothill Boulevard, in Lake View Terrace. The prior day, a sword-wielding suspect had attacked a student in the area and set several fires, before disappearing into Big Tujunga Wash. This information was provided by the House of Worship Task Force.

Officers from Foothill Area Station initiated a search of the wash and 210 Freeway east of Wheatland Avenue. Detective II Christopher McKinney, 39, 17 years with the department, and his partner, discovered an open manhole that accessed the enclosed freeway bridge cells. The officers climbed up into the cells and continued their search, when they encountered the suspect wielding a machete. Detective McKinney fired his weapon, striking the man once in the head. The suspect, Prince Marin, 42, was pronounced dead at the scene.

Neither officer was injured. Both wore plain cloths and were assigned to the Foothill Area Narcotics Enforcement Detail.

Force Investigation Division responded to the scene and is handling the investigation.
