Lt. Jerry Rodriguez Promotes to Captain of Foothill Division NR10240rf

Los Angeles: Effective May 9, 2010, Lt. Jerry Rodriguez, who has been an acting captain at the Los Angeles Police Department’s Foothill Division, will be officially appointed to the rank of Captain 1.

Rodriguez was born in Havana, Cuba, and immigrated with his family to the United States in December 1969 at age 6.  He was raised in the southeast portion of Los Angeles County and attended Los Angeles Unified Schools.  He attended and graduated from Bell High School in 1982 and then attended classes at Cerritos and Rio Hondo Colleges.  In February 2005, he earned a bachelor’s degree in business management from the University of Phoenix.  Lieutenant Rodriguez is also a graduate of the Department’s Supervisory Leadership Institute, the LAPD Leadership Program and the prestigious Federal Bureau of Investigation National Academy.

Rodriguez was appointed to the Department in July 1986 and began his career in LAPD’s 77th Street Area.  While at the rank of police officer, he worked a number of assignments, including Special Problems Units, Foot Beats, Hollywood Prostitution Enforcement Detail and Vice.  He also worked as a staff researcher for the Use of Force Review section.

After 10 years as a police officer, he promoted to sergeant in 1996 and worked a variety of coveted assignments that included officer in charge of Newton Area Vice, the Corruption Task Force, the Board of Inquiry, Internal Affairs Group and the Office of the Inspector General.  In 2004, he was instrumental in developing the Force Investigation Division, which is charged with investigating all major officer-involved uses of force.  In 2006 he promoted to lieutenant and was assigned as the district lieutenant in the Department’s Southeast Area.  He was later promoted to Lieutenant II and assigned as the adjutant to the director in the LAPD Office of Operations.  In March of this year, he was assigned as the Commanding Officer of the LAPD Foothill Patrol Division, leading up to his current promotion.
