LAPD Soccer Team

The sport of soccer is recognized throughout the world.  The Los Angeles Police Soccer Program has represented LAPD worldwide for over three decades in soccer competition.

In 1978, some 30 years ago, a spirited group of LAPD officers found that they had a common interest in the sport of soccer, known as the “Game of Kings”.  Detective John Rockwood (Retired) of Homicide Section, WLA Division organized these officers to form the first LAPD Soccer Team.  Detective Rockwood coached and managed this team many years.

The LAPD Soccer Program has evolved over many years and expanded to include four distinct teams.  The open or “A-Team”; the “recreation of “B-Team”, the ‘Over 35 Team and the “Women’s Team”.  Currently only the “A-Team” is active.

The LAPD Soccer Program has represented the Department in; Local recreational soccer leagues and Charity events; Other state athletic tournaments, i.e., Nevada and Arizona; Multi-State athletic events – Western States Police & Fire Games; International Police Soccer Tournaments – North American Police Soccer Tournament and the World Police & Fire Games.  We have been invited to and competed in law enforcement soccer tournaments in Canada, Belgium, Netherlands, Mexico, London and Italy.

LA-United, F.C. routinely competes in five major law enforcement soccer tournaments per year, both locally, in various states and internationally.  We compete at the highest level of competition that law enforcement and fire agencies have.

Please visit the Trophy Cabinets at the Los Angeles Police Academy, Elysian Park and our “BLOG” site at:  http://lapdsoccer.blogspot.com/  for additional information on our competitions and action photographs.

We are continually interested in identifying quality soccer players on the Department to join our ranks.  Those interested can contact the current coaches below:
