Captain William Hayes started his career in law enforcement with the Connecticut State Police in 1977. He moved to Los Angeles in 1982 and was appointed to the Department as a police officer in June of that year. He has since promoted through the ranks of leadership, attaining the supervisory position of Sergeant in 1994, Lieutenant in 1999, and Captain in 2005.
Captain Hayes has worked a variety of assignments involving patrol tours as a police officer or supervisor in Hollywood, Southeast, Rampart, Newton, and Southwest. He has worked as a physical training and self-defense instructor at Training Division and as an element member and supervisor in Metropolitan Division. Captain Hayes was the Officer in Charge of the Ethics Enforcement Section, Professional Standards Bureau before promoting to his current assignment as the Commanding Officer, Pacific Patrol Division.
Captain Hayes is a graduate of Saint Michael's College, the Los Angeles Police Department's West Point Leadership Program and the California Police Officers Standard and Training Supervisory Leadership Institute.
