Wilmington: On February 2, 2018, around 3:30 p.m., officers assigned to the Los Angeles Police Department Harbor Division Gang Enforcement Detail were in the area of Anaheim Street and Ronan Avenue. They saw a white minivan driving recklessly and attempted to conduct a traffic stop. The driver of the minivan, later identified as 34-year-old Pedro Gudino, did not stop and there was a brief vehicle pursuit before Gudino collided with two vehicles in the area of West Opp Street and Fries Avenue. The minivan came to a stop because of the collision. Gudino, who was armed with a semiautomatic handgun, pointed it, and fired at the officers. At that time, Police Officers II Andres Martinez, Serial No. 41620, and James Welch, Serial No. 41822, fired at and struck Gudino. Gudino fell to the ground and was transported by Los Angeles Fire Department personnel to a local hospital and was listed in critical condition. A man in a second-floor apartment was struck by a round in the leg during the Officer-Involved Shooting.
