Traffic Collision Leaves a Bicyclist Dead NR13083cn

Los Angeles: On March 3, 2013, at 6:30 PM, a fatal traffic collision occurred on Vine Street at Banner Avenue, resulting in the death of a local resident.

A 26-year-old female resident of Los Angeles parked her 2009 BMW 328i southbound on Vine Street along the curb at Banner Avenue. She opened the driver’s door of the vehicle to get out. At the same time, a 49-year-old male resident of Los Angeles was riding his bicycle southbound on Vine Street in the bicycle lane and collided with the motorist’s door. The collision caused the bicyclist to be thrown from the bicycle and land in the roadway.

Los Angeles Fire Department paramedics responded to the scene and transported the bicyclist to a local hospital. On March 8, 2013, he died as a result of his injuries at the hospital.

The investigation revealed the primary collision factor was the opening of a car door when unsafe. It did not appear that alcohol intoxication or drugs were a factor in the traffic collision.
