"Pursuit Suspect Turned Out to be Murder Suspect"

Hollywood: On Monday, July 23, 2001 at approximately 6:35 p.m., Hollywood Area patrol officers received a radio call of a trespassing suspect at KTLA Station, 5800 West Sunset Boulevard. The suspect was described as a male Hispanic in a brown Chevrolet who was driving erratically in the parking lot. Responding officers observed the suspect and attempted to stop him, but the suspect failed to yield and a pursuit ensued. The suspect drove mostly on the surface streets both in the Downtown area and around the area of Rampart Community Police Station. At times, he attempted to contact local reporters who were covering an unrelated story outside of Rampart Station.

At 8:35 p.m., due to the concern for public safety, the officers contained the suspect's vehicle and apprehended him, without further incident, on Benton Way just south of Temple Street. There was no injuries or damages during the pursuit.

Shortly after the pursuit ended, El Monte Police Department and the Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department contacted the Los Angeles Police Department and advised that the suspect in custody, from the pursuit, was also wanted for the stabbing death of his girlfriend. The incident occurred in El Monte at 4:40 p.m. on July 23, 2001. The suspect has been identified as Ruben Sierra, 40 years of age of El Monte. The suspect allegedly stabbed his 33-year-old girlfriend to death during a domestic dispute.

Detectives from the El Monte Police Department responded to Hollywood Community Police Station to conduct their Homicide Investigation in conjunction with LAPD detectives. The suspect was turned over to the custody of El Monte Police Department where he will be booked for murder.
