"Mysterious Shooting Claims Life of Mustang Driver"
 
Hollywood – On Sunday, March 4, 2001, at approximately 6:23 p.m., the Los Angeles City Fire Department responded to a call of a car on fire in the area of Highland Avenue and Delongpre Avenue in Hollywood. When they arrived, the firefighters discovered the body of Victor Manuel Saldana, a 38 year-old male Hispanic resident of Sylmar sitting in the driver’s seat of a yellow 1998 Ford Mustang. Saldana appeared lifeless and upon closer inspection, the firefighters discovered that Saldana had sustained a gunshot wound. Saldana was immediately transported to a local hospital for emergency medical treatment; however, Saldana succumbed to his injuries and was pronounced dead upon his arrival to the hospital.
Although the investigation is in its preliminary stages, there are no apparent motives, weapons used or possible suspects to assist in the investigation.
This case is being handled by the Hollywood Homicide Unit. Detectives are requesting that anyone who was in the vicinity of Highland and Delongpre Avenues at approximately 6:00 PM, and observed anything unusual regarding a yellow Mustang or the shooting of Manuel Saldana, to contact the Los Angeles Police Department, Hollywood Homicide Unit at 213-485-6410, or after hours at 213-485-4302.
