Pedestrian Traffic Safety & Enforcement Operation

May 3, 2007

What:
May is Pedestrian Traffic Safety Month in West Bureau

When:
May 9, 2007
9:30 AM Press Conference

Where:
Western Ave & Wilshire Blvd (Northeast corner)

Who:
West Traffic Division in Partnership with Wilshire, West Los Angeles & Hollywood Areas.

Why:
There have been over 100 serious injury or fatal traffic collisions that have occurred in the same areas from January 2007 to the present. The majority of theses collisions are occurring during the daytime hours, where the pedestrian is attempting to cross the street outside of a marked crosswalk or not obeying the pedestrian signals at intersections in violation of the California Vehicle Code. Pedestrians are reminded to cross streets at marked crosswalks and to obey the pedestrian signals where they have the right of way. Pedestrians attempting to cross the street outside of a crosswalk do not have the right of way and cross at their own peril.
