| Captain Michael P. Moriarty was born in Pittsburgh Pennsylvania in 1957. He obtained a Bachelors of Arts degree in Criminology and moved to Los Angeles to join the Los Angeles Police Department on January 26, 1981. As a Police Officer Captain Moriarty worked Newton and Southwest Division as well as assignments in Operations-West Bureau and Operations-Central Bureau gang units. Captain Morairty worked as a detective trainee assigned to gang homicides in the Operations-Central Bureau gang unit. In March of 1986 Captain Moriarty was promoted to Detective and assigned to Narcotics Division. While assigned to Narcotics Division Captain Moriarty was assigned to the Field Enforcement Section (FES) and the Major Violator Section (MVS). In March of 1988, Captain Moriarty was promoted to Sergeant and assigned to Southeast Patrol Division. Captain Moriarty was then assigned to the Internal Affairs Surveillance Detail until his promotion to Detective II in January of 1990. Captain Moriarty returned to Narcotics Group where he was assigned to the Major Violator Section and the High Intensity Drug Trafficking Area (HIDTA), a joint local, state and federal drug interdiction task force. Captain Moriarty served as squad leader overseeing an enforcement group. In April of 1995, Captain Moriarty was promoted to Sergeant II and returned to Internal Affairs Group. He was assigned to the Internal Surveillance Unit and the Advocate Section until his promotion to Detective III. He assumed the duties of the Assistant Officer in Charge of the Special Operations Section of Internal Affairs Group. In September of 1998, Captain Moriarty was promoted to lieutenant and assigned as a watch commander in Hollywood patrol. As a Lieutenant he worked as a bureau Adjutant in the Operations-Valley Bureau and the Human Resources Bureau. In January 2002, Captain Moriarty was promoted to captain assigned as the commanding officer of the Van Nuys Operations Support Division. His duties included overseeing the Van Nuys Detective Section, Crime Analysis Detail (CAD), Vice, and the Special Enforcement Unit (SEU) gang detail. Captain Moriarty is currently the Commanding Officer of the Hollywood Patrol Division where he is responsible for all patrol personnel deployment. Captain Moriarty is a member of several professional organizations, California Narcotics Officers Association (CNOA) as a Lifetime member, International Association of Chiefs of Police (IACP), and the Los Angeles County Peace Officers Association. Captain Moriarty is a graduate of the Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) Drug Unit Commanders Academy in Quantico Virginia. |
