Police Administrator Nancy Gennusa joined the Los Angeles Police Department in 1973 as a Station Officer assigned to the Department’s evidence control function. Ms. Gennusa then served as a civilian dispatcher until embarking on a management career in 1988. Since that time, Ms. Gennusa has held several staff assignments within the Office of Chief of Police as an auditor, and as an adjutant in Communications and Records and identification Divisions.

In 1995, Ms. Gennusa became the Officer in Charge of the Technical Laboratory of Scientific Investigation Division and managed the Department’s Polygraph Unit, as well as the crime scene photographic and the latent fingerprint investigative functions. In 2001, Ms. Gennusa was assigned as the Commanding Officer of Employee Opportunity and Development Division. She managed the Field Training Officer program, and the employee Career Development and Employee Selection Sections. In this assignment, she had oversight responsibilities for many anti-discrimination programs and investigations, served as the Department’s Equal Employment Opportunity Counselor, and was a member of the Department’s Equal Employment Opportunity Committee. Ms. Gennusa was promoted to Police Administrator and assigned as the Commanding Officer of Jail Division, managing 10 jails that operate 24 hours a day throughout the City of Los Angeles.

In June 2003, Ms. Gennusa was selected as the Commanding Officer of Technical Services Group. In this assignment, she has management oversight of the Department’s fleet, and the evidence control, scientific investigation, jail, and records management functions. Ms. Gennusa also serves as the Chairperson of the Peer Counseling Steering Committee.

Ms. Gennusa attended Los Angeles Pierce College and California State University at Northridge, majoring in psychology. She instructs on a variety of topics at promotional seminars for civilian employees and is a Department instructor for completed staff work for supervisors and sexual harassment.
