Police Administrator Sue W. Gordon was assigned as the Commanding Officer, Personnel Division in June, 2006. As the CO, Personnel Division, she serves as the Department's Personnel Director and advises top Department management on personnel related laws, rules, regulations, policies, and procedures. Ms. Gordon is also responsible for processing and assigning all sworn and civilian personnel, conducting background investigations of all civilian personnel, processing all sick and injured employees, administering the Department's Return to Work Program, processing and investigating sworn employees who apply for pensions, and maintaining all personnel and medical records of the Department. Upon graduation from college, Ms. Gordon moved to Los Angeles, and was appointed to the Los Angeles Police Department in 1971 in the City's administrative series. She was first assigned to Traffic Services Division and was subsequently promoted and transferred to the Board of Police Commissioners where she served as a staff assistant. In 1977, she promoted to the City's Personnel Analyst series and transferred to the City's Personnel Department where she was involved in selection, classification, and EEO activities. During her tenure at the Personnel Department, she was involved in the development of the new Department of Telecommunications and the consolidation of parking functions into the Department of Transportation, as well as serving as the liaison analyst to the Department of Water and Power. She served as the City's first Sexual Harassment Awareness Coordinator and was also the supervisor of all sworn promotional examinations for both the Police and Fire Departments. In 1997, she returned to the Police Department when she transferred to the Office of the Inspector General where she served as staff to the Domestic Violence Task Force. Ms. Gordon subsequently transferred to Civilian Employment Section, Personnel Division, and in 2000, she became Officer in Charge of Civilian Personnel Services Section, Personnel Division. In addition to being responsible for the Department's civilian personnel program, she participated on the Police Service Representative Task Force, implemented the reinstatement of the Police Student Worker Program, conducted class hiring for Detention Officer, Property Officer and Police Service Representative, and managed civilian hiring activities in response to the hiring freezes. Ms. Gordon promoted to Police Administrator in October 2004 and was assigned as the Commanding Officer, Property Division. She was responsible for overseeing four warehouses and 16 geographic property rooms and managing 92 personnel engaged in receiving, storing, and releasing items booked into the custody of the Los Angeles Police Department. Ms. Gordon was born in the Presidio, San Francisco into an Army family and had the opportunity to live in a variety of places, including the Panama Canal Zone before settling in North Carolina. She completed high school and college in North Carolina, receiving a bachelor's degree from Barton College in Wilson, North Carolina. Ms. Gordon is married with two grown daughters and currently lives in Studio City with her husband, Tony.
