Detective Abiel Barron Information and Memorial

On June 25, 2003, at about 7:30 p.m., Detective Abiel (Abe) Barron and his partner were traveling eastbound on Highway 138 in an unmarked police vehicle, two miles west of the 15 freeway. A pickup truck heading westbound on Highway 138 struck the detective's vehicle head-on when the driver crossed over the double-yellow center line of the two-lane highway in an attempt to pass two big rigs in a no-passing zone. Detective Barron died at the scene and his partner, 49 year-old Detective Andrew Teague, was transported to a nearby hospital in critical condition.

Detective Barron joined the LAPD in November of 1983. After completing his training at the academy he was assigned to patrol assignments in Southeast and Newton Areas. Abe Barron was promoted to Detective in June of 1995 and worked Detective Headquarters Division, Newton and Northeast Detectives. He worked on various types of investigations before becoming a Homicide Detective.
