As one of the most grueling endurance races, the triathlon tests an athlete’s physical fitness and mental toughness. Participants cringe at the thought of swimming 2.4 miles, cycling 112 miles and if that’s not tiring enough, running a full marathon of 26.2 miles. All this in just one day of work.
In their first year of existence, the LAPD’s Triathlon team is looking to make a name for itself through competition. The six member team competes in 8-10 races during the season, which runs from May through September. The races vary in length from sprint races to the Ironman distance. Sprint races will consist of a 400-800 yard swim, a 12 mile bike ride and finish up with a 5K run while the Ironman is the grueling distances above. These races are a true test of endurance and physical fitness.
