Records and Identification Division

Records and Identification (R&I) Division is a critical 24-hour, seven-day a week support function of the Department, providing records and information management systems and state-of-the-art identification services and technologies. The R&I Division coordinates the Department’s records retention program and is responsible for compiling, maintaining, and disseminating copies of Department records concerning crimes, arrests, pawned articles, traffic, property, firearms, securities, vehicles, boats and missing persons to law enforcement agencies, authorized outside agencies and citizens. The Division is also responsible for positively identifying all arrestees and monitoring the Los Angeles Automated Fingerprint Identification System.

Effective March 18, 2011, the R&I public counter located at the Police Administration Building, Room P1-137, will be open between 8:00 a.m. and 5:00 p.m., Monday through Thursday; however, Repossession Receipts are accepted 24 hours a day, or can be purchased online at

Public Counter Services include Clearance Letters for purpose of Travel and/or Adoption, Detention Letters, Arrest Summaries, and Repossession Receipts.  The R&I Division is not authorized to release Arrest Reports to Suspect nor does it provide Crime or Traffic Reports at the Public Counter.  Requests for Crime or Traffic Reports are accepted via mail at:
