Behavioral Science Services (BSS) is responsible for planning, developing, implementing, and administering the Department psychological services program. BSS is staffed by professional and trained psychologists who specialize in law enforcement-related situations and crises.

Behavioral Science Services (BSS) provides individual and couples counseling to all Department personnel and their spouses. Although counseling is the primary service provided by BSS, the psychologists also provide training for Department personnel on topics such as Stress management, suicide prevention, and anger management. They conduct debriefings and defusing for Department personnel involved in traumatic situations. They respond with our Special Weapons and Tactics Team to hostage negotiations and barricaded suspect situations. BSS also provides organizational/psychological consultation to work groups within the Department. In addition, the section also designs and conducts research in various areas related to law enforcement.
