Northeast Area Officers Arrest Two Murder Suspects

LOS ANGELES POLICE DEPARTMENT
PRESS RELEASE
Monday, January 4, 1999

On January 2, 1999 at 2:30 a.m., uniformed police officers assigned to Northeast Division, responded to a radio call on the 3400 block of Loosemore Street in the Cypress Park area of Los Angeles.

Two victims, ages 19, were shot by two suspects. The suspects fled but were subsequently arrested by Northeast uniformed officers.

Los Angeles City Fire Paramedics transported both victims to LACUSC Medical Center where Victim #1, identified as Joey Valentino, succumbed to his injuries. Victim #2 sustained multiple gun shot wounds and is listed in critical condition.

The suspect, subsequently identified as Juan Naranjo, 20 years of age, was taken into custody without further incident and booked at Jail Division for Murder. The second subject was also arrested for Murder and is detained at Eastlake Juvenile Hall.
