Husband and Wife Found Dead in an Apparent Murder/Suicide

On Thursday, January 20, 2000, at approximately 1:17 p.m., Harbor Area officers received a radio call of a "Screaming Woman" in an apartment located on the 700 block of North Wilmington Avenue. Upon arrival, officers discovered two victims of an apparent murder/suicide in the apartment. The female victim, Bertha Perez, F, Hispanic, 30 years of age, had sustained multiple gunshot wounds. The male suspect, Juan Perez, M, Hispanic, 45 years of age, shot his wife and then succumbed to a self-inflicted gunshot wound. The motive for the murder/suicide has not been determined.

The investigation is ongoing and is being conducted by Harbor Operation Support Division, Homicide Division. Please direct all inquiries to Media Relations at 213-485-3586.
