25 Year Old Driver Dies in Traffic Collision

"25-Year-Old Driver Dies in Traffic Collision"

Hyde Park - On Sunday, January 14, 2001, at approximately 1:20 a.m., a 25 year old male victim was killed when his vehicle, a 1981 Buick Regal, collided with a light standard on Crenshaw Boulevard south of 63rd Street.

The victim was traveling southbound in the number one lane at a high rate of speed. He then negotiated a lane change into the two way left turn median to pass another vehicle. When the victim changed back to the number one lane, he lost control of his vehicle and skidded in excess of 300 feet, and collided into the lamp standard. The victim died as a result of blunt force trauma to his head and torso area.

A 15-year-old female passenger only received minor injuries and was transported to Martin Luther King Jr. Hospital by LAFD paramedics for treatment.

South Traffic Detectives will be continuing this investigation pending coroner's report.

This Press Release was prepared by Public Information Officer Jason Lee, Media Relations Section, 213-485-3586.
